The Humming Bird Aviary (at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum)

On our way back to California from Texas, we visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum!

 My favorite part of the Museum was the Hummingbird Aviary.

Hummingbirds come in all colors, including green!


One of the best places to find hummingbirds is next to the feeders.

     On the eighteenth of July, we went to Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.  It erupted in 1980. The lava column shot up 15 miles into the air and rushed down the sides of the mountain. All the plants and animals around the volcano were wiped out.  After the eruption, life returned quickly.  Now, the area is filled with even more animals and plants than before the eruption. However, we didn't get to hike on the mountain itself, because it was closed for research. Mount St. Helens      Since we weren't able to go to Mount St. Helens, we went to Johnston Ridge Observatory.  There, we could see the mountain and also learn about it from movies, exhibits, or rangers. Playgrounds in Israel

We got to visit lots of playgrounds in Israel! They are different from the ones in the U.S. and they are really fun! This playground was in the Old City, Jerusalem.  The swing was really fun! The park was really fun! You could slide down and also climb up! Sliding down! There were also two long blue slides! We also got to visit two parks in Tel Aviv. The first park was like an amusement park. It had like 20+ swings! This park also had two of the swings that we saw in Jerusalem! This park also had a giant playground with at least 12 slides! There was something that you could go on and it would take you down to the ground! Near this park in Tel Aviv was another park. It was really fun, too. Our trip to Sacramento

At around 5:30 in the morning on Monday, my Dad came into our room and woke us up.  We had everything for the trip prepared the night before, but we hadn't loaded everything into the car. There were also some food in the refrigerator that we needed to bring and many last-minute things we needed to do (like waking up my brother so he could prepare his things).  Around 6:00, we left the house.  In almost no time, the sun was up. Outside the window, the land was parched and dry, but the view was nice. The six of us were not the only ones traveling.  My younger siblings' stuffed animals were also riding on the car. About half-way through the trip, we stopped at a rest station.  We had stopped at this rest station before last year when we went on our road trip. Ha Kotel - The Western Wall

"Ha Kotel" means "The Wall" in Hebrew. The Western Wall, also known a s  the Wailing Wall, is the most holy place for Jews all over the world. So, what's so special about the Western Wall? The Western Wall was part of the wall that surrounded the walls of the temple. The Western Wall is the closest surviving wall to the Most Holy place. People from all over the world pray at the Western Wall. The Western Wall is also known as "The Wailing Wall" because many people weep because the temple is destroyed and because God's people have not returned to Him. Before you enter the Western Wall, you must go through security check first. The Western Wall is very safe! After security check, you descend down the stairs to the Wall. A sign welcomes you at the right. It says, "Welcome to the Western Wall, a remnant of the Temple". Psalm 112:6-7 is written on the sign in Hebrew and English. The Western Wall is a...

Animals in Israel

We got to see lots of Animals in Israel! We especially got to see lots of adorable cats. There was a time when there were too many mice in Israel. So, they imported lots of cats. The mice population died down. The cats stayed. We visited a family in Migdal. They showed us their pet turtle and let us ride on their horse Dusty. We also got to see many birds in Israel. There were many birds in the Old City of Jerusalem and at the Western Wall. They liked to sit in the cracks of the Old walls. In Tel Aviv, we got to see lots of crabs at the beach. There were gray-speckled crabs and even white crabs! Watch this video to see the crabs walking! We also saw lions in the Old City! On the Road to Seattle

We're on our Family Road Trip for this year!  This time, we're heading for Seattle! We split the driving part of our trip into two days. On Day #1, we'll be driving from Orange (where we live) to Yreka, a small town near the border of California and Oregon. There would be about 10 hours of driving. Including traffic and rest stops, it would be about 12-13 hours.  California is REALLY  big! From Orange to Yreka On the second day, we'll depart from Yreka, drive through Oregon, and arrive at Seattle. From Yreka to Seattle Day #1 Since we had many hours to drive for the first day, we planned to leave at around 5 in the morning. At the end, we left at 7 am. The trip would be about 12-13 hours (including rest stops and bathroom breaks). A tour of the Botanical Garden of the Hebrew University

Today, we went on a tour with Dr. Pfann, the President of the University of the Holy Land. We toured the Botanical Garden of the Hebrew University, and we learned a lot about the plants of the Bible. Israel is in the center of 3 continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa. There are many different climates in Israel, too. This is why there are so many different kinds of plants and flowers that grow in Israel. We first stopped by a lavender plant.  Lavender in Israel looks a bit different from ones in the US, but it smells just as nice! This tree below is the Ceratonia Siliqua , also known as the Carob Tree. The Carob Tree can be used for food and medicine. There are male and female Carob Trees. This tree is a male tree because of the stamens on the branches. We will talk more about carob beans at the end of the post. Below is the  Majorana Syriaca , the hyssop of the Bible. BB 2018 - Happy Studying!

Nationals is coming soon! It's already November 4th! The National Bible Bee Competition is less than a month away! Nationals 2017 All of us are very excited. We've been looking forward to this for a whole year! Nationals 2016 It's kind of hard to believe that Nationals is almost here. Time passes so fast! It seems like we just started 2018! Studying... In our home, studying is going pretty well. Of course, there are times when it is hard, but right now we are all having a happy time and lots of fun. We review and perfect our verses and study Philippians and Greek. Now that Nationals is almost here, we have Mock Bible Bee! Mommy is the judge and we are the contestants. We have mock Prelim Orals rounds and mock Semi-final rounds (not yet finals, we'll get to there later). None of the rounds are scored, but they are still really fun and exciting.  I still get a little bit nervous during our practice rounds. :) Anabel - Locals 2017 Practice...

Highlights from Lava Beds National Monument - part 1 (6/27/2023 Tuesday)

It's been a while since I last posted on this blog (last post in 2020)! Time has flown by so quickly. For 2020, 2021, and 2022, our family has been blessed to do a fun summer road trip from CA to the east coast. We've been blessed to visit the OH Scriptorium, dear friends, and fun places along the way. This year, we weren't able to make it to the east coast again, but we are doing a short 1-week trip up to northern CA and Oregon.  My family and I were blessed to visit Lava Beds National Monument again! Mushpot is a beginner cave with paved paths and lighting inside. Gan Ha'Atzmaut - Independence Park

My favorite thing that we did this week during Sukkot in Israel was playing in Gan Ha'Atzmaut, Independence Park. We got to play with kids of all ages from families from all over the world.  Sometimes some of the younger kids couldn't understand English, so some of us would translate into Hebrew, German, or Chinese, for them. We had a fun and exciting time together. Even though we only played together for one week, it feels as if we knew everyone for an year already! Below, we are playing a game called "Squirrel and Tree". The little ones absolutely LOVE this game, and it is pretty fun even for us who are older. Since we are all from all over the world, we all know different games to play. It was fun discussing, teaching, learning, and playing new games. Sometimes, we modified some games so that the younger ones could understand. For example, "North, Central, South America" became "Red, Yellow, Green". The little ones...
