Franklin Falls

Franklin Falls! Don't worry, we're not going to a show to watch our friend Franklin fall! We're going to hike to a waterfall!

To hike to Franklin Falls, there are two trails to choose from. On the way up, we'll be walking on Franklin Falls Trail, and on the way down, we'll go on the Wagon Road Trail. In total, we'll hike for about 2.3 miles.

Note: I am taking most of the photos on this trip, so you probably won't see me in any of the pictures!

Trail information

Here we are at the start of the trail. The scene is beautiful and there are trees everywhere. The entire place is green!

Anabel's stuffed animal Freckles is joining us for the hike!

Freckles won't need to walk, she gets to ride in Anabel's backpack!

There is a creek by the side of the road. It flows from the waterfall itself.

Flowers along the way

We saw many pretty flowers on the forest floor along the trail. This white one below was the most abundant.

White flower with 4 petals, found among the ferns

Another one

This one is really nice, too!

White flower (6 petals)

I really liked this yellow one. One of my favorites. I think it is a buttercup.

Yellow flower (5 petals)

Another of my favorites!

This one reminds me of trumpets.

Purple flowers

This one's my favorite!

Fungi and Mushrooms

Enjoy these photos of fungi and mushrooms.

Found among moss on forest floor

I call this the "umbrella" mushroom!

Found on dirt, also on trees. White.

Found on fallen log covered with moss

Two types of mushrooms.

Hmm... What's this???

Berries

Berries! I'm not sure if they're safe to eat, though. We stayed content with looking and taking pictures.

One thing I do know is that red ones are ripe, green-yellow ones are not. So, if you ever do try one (which I do not recommend in the wild), be sure to pick a dark red one!

At the Falls!

The trail going down to the Fall was narrow and made of slippery rocks. I almost slipped!

Finally, at Franklin Falls!

The water falling down and hitting the rocks sprayed water everywhere. Even faraway you could feel water sprinkling on you.

Pictures below taken at least 200 feet away from the waterfall:

We ventured closer. It felt even "wetter" than walking into a sprinkler on the lawn!

As you can see, even on land, the rocks are all wet

The current in the creek next to the Fall was pretty strong, as it flowed directly from Franklin Falls.

The water in Franklin Falls comes from melted snow and ice. We tested the water with our hands, and, of course, it was icy cold.

We hiked on the Wagon Trail on the way back. It's about 2 pm, but we're not done yet for the day!
