On the Road to Seattle

We're on our Family Road Trip for this year! This time, we're heading for Seattle!

We split the driving part of our trip into two days. On Day #1, we'll be driving from Orange (where we live) to Yreka, a small town near the border of California and Oregon. There would be about 10 hours of driving. Including traffic and rest stops, it would be about 12-13 hours. 

 California is REALLY big!

On the second day, we'll depart from Yreka, drive through Oregon, and arrive at Seattle.

Day #1

Since we had many hours to drive for the first day, we planned to leave at around 5 in the morning. At the end, we left at 7 am. The trip would be about 12-13 hours (including rest stops and bathroom breaks).

Most of the time during the trip, the view through window looked like this:

At one point in the trip, everything started to look like this:
Green Trees!

Green! Green! Green!

What made everything suddenly turn green? We found out that there was a stream of water beside the trees. It reminded us of the verse in Psalm 1 that says:

"He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,

That brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper."
On the car, we ate breakfast and lunch, recited verses and studied for BB, listened to sermons, slept (best way to pass time!), read (only Catherine), and took pictures (only me).

At last, we arrived in Yreka. We spent the night at Roadside Inn. Our room had a bathroom, 2 double beds, and 1 Queen bed.

We ate a VERY healthy dinner of whole wheat bread, fruit, and veggies.

Day #2

We ate the complimentary breakfast provided at the Inn in the morning and set off at around 7 in the morning. We'll be on the road for about 10 hours.

 Most of the time, I was reciting verses and reviewing CR's, on this trip, so I didn't take photos. Anabel and Theodore made videos of their stuffed animals reciting verses.

Finally, we reached our destination - Seattle!

We went shopping for groceries, and we realized that some fruits and veggies here are a bit more expensive that in California! 

One example:
Corn in California - 5 for a dollar (20 cents each)
Corn in Seattle - 5 for 5 dollars (1 dollar each)

Another difference between California and Seattle: The days here are longer! The sun sets at around 9 pm! Sometimes, we eat dinner at 10 pm!

We are staying at an Airbnb in Seattle. It has a full kitchen, a bathroom, and 3 beds.

Ha Kotel - The Western Wall

"Ha Kotel" means "The Wall" in Hebrew. The Western Wall, also known a s  the Wailing Wall, is the most holy place for Jews all over the world. So, what's so special about the Western Wall? The Western Wall was part of the wall that surrounded the walls of the temple. The Western Wall is the closest surviving wall to the Most Holy place. People from all over the world pray at the Western Wall. The Western Wall is also known as "The Wailing Wall" because many people weep because the temple is destroyed and because God's people have not returned to Him. Before you enter the Western Wall, you must go through security check first. The Western Wall is very safe! After security check, you descend down the stairs to the Wall. A sign welcomes you at the right. It says, "Welcome to the Western Wall, a remnant of the Temple". Psalm 112:6-7 is written on the sign in Hebrew and English. The Western Wall is a...

Playgrounds in Israel

We got to visit lots of playgrounds in Israel! They are different from the ones in the U.S. and they are really fun! This playground was in the Old City, Jerusalem.  The swing was really fun! The park was really fun! You could slide down and also climb up! Sliding down! There were also two long blue slides! We also got to visit two parks in Tel Aviv. The first park was like an amusement park. It had like 20+ swings! This park also had two of the swings that we saw in Jerusalem! This park also had a giant playground with at least 12 slides! There was something that you could go on and it would take you down to the ground! Near this park in Tel Aviv was another park. It was really fun, too. Animals in Israel

We got to see lots of Animals in Israel! We especially got to see lots of adorable cats. There was a time when there were too many mice in Israel. So, they imported lots of cats. The mice population died down. The cats stayed. We visited a family in Migdal. They showed us their pet turtle and let us ride on their horse Dusty. We also got to see many birds in Israel. There were many birds in the Old City of Jerusalem and at the Western Wall. They liked to sit in the cracks of the Old walls. In Tel Aviv, we got to see lots of crabs at the beach. There were gray-speckled crabs and even white crabs! Watch this video to see the crabs walking! We also saw lions in the Old City! A tour of the Botanical Garden of the Hebrew University

Today, we went on a tour with Dr. Pfann, the President of the University of the Holy Land. We toured the Botanical Garden of the Hebrew University, and we learned a lot about the plants of the Bible. Israel is in the center of 3 continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa. There are many different climates in Israel, too. This is why there are so many different kinds of plants and flowers that grow in Israel. We first stopped by a lavender plant.  Lavender in Israel looks a bit different from ones in the US, but it smells just as nice! This tree below is the Ceratonia Siliqua , also known as the Carob Tree. The Carob Tree can be used for food and medicine. There are male and female Carob Trees. Israel

On our trip to Israel, we flew on an Israeli airline called EL AL. Our first meal had pasta, chicken, pita bread (delicious!), grapes, potato chips, a slice of chocolate cake, and a drink.  After fifteen hours on the airplane, we landed in Israel.  As soon as the airplane touched the ground, almost everyone in the plane shouted and clapped.  Was it because our airplane stayed safe (and in the air) throughout the whole flight? We went through the customs, got our three tiny luggage (each less than 2 feet tall and 1 foot wide) from the baggage claim, and exited the airport.  The ride to the apartment where we would be staying was quite long.  However, I happened to be sitting next to my brother, who is both a very good comedian and a very good storyteller.  For the whole ride I sat listening to his entertaining story of animals (deer, cows, horses, skunks, and rabbits). Flying Heritage and Combat Armor Museum

This museum was one selectively chose by Catherine. She is very interested in war planes, and this museum displays tanks and planes that have been in the war. This tank above is the  R-11M with 8U218 TEL (SS-1b Scud-A) Ballistic Missile System , built by the Soviet Union. Soviet Union tanks are  really  powerful. The Harley-Davidson WLA   motorcycle (below) was made by the United States. They were used for scouting, messenger services, patrol duties, and convoy escort. They can travel up to 120 miles at 65 MPH (on pavement).  The exhibit was REALLY big. There were at least 200 tanks and planes on display. Below are some of them: The  Panzerkampfwagen Ausf. H  made by Germany. The Kettenkrafttrad Sd.Kfz.2  made by Germany. Designed at motorcycle for military. After the war, it was converted to use as farm equipment. Plane! Sneek peeks of Huntington Beach Local Bee!

Here are some sneak peeks of all the fun we are having at Huntington Beach Local Bee this summer! Every Sunday since June 2nd, 20-some contestants and their families get together at Huntington Beach to study for the Bible Bee together! Our Local Bee's wonderful hosts are two sisters, Kristie and Joanna Tang! Huntington Beach Local Bee: Kristi, Julianna, Anabel, Hannah, Bethany Huntington Beach Local Bee: Theodore, Joshua, Daniel Contestant Introductions! (6/2- Anabel) Each Local Bee meeting begins with a lesson, which is usually about the Unit we studied in the Discovery Journal for the week. Happy Birthday to the BEST younger sister ever!!! Anabel, it's been such a blessing to have you in my life. I am so thankful and privileged to have you as my one and only younger sister. It was YOU who came into my life when I was an 18-month old baby. It was because of YOU that, at 18 months, I was promoted from the status of "baby of the family" to "older sister". You are such a wonderful companion, sister, and friend. We've talked and laughed so much together. As you enter this 13th year of your life, I pray that you will continue to honor God, seek Him, and bring His joy to those around you. And, of course, I  hope that we will celebrate many more birthdays together! Happy Birthday, Anabel!
