Chi-Chi the Chick

Image
Hello everyone! I am Chi-Chi ( pronounced "chee-chee") the Chick! I was born on August 23rd, 2018. This is me hatching: When I came out of the egg, I looked kind of dead: But when I became fluffy, I was just the opposite! I started pecking at the other eggs! You see, I just wanted a friend. Finally, one of my siblings started to hatch! I was sooooooo excited! Then something went wrong and the temperature dropped. I don't know why, but my sibling stopped breathing. In the end, I turned out to be the only chick that hatched successfully. In the beginning, I was given cooked white rice to eat. I tried a piece, but I guess I just didn't like the taste. Instead I nestled down and sat right on top of the rice pan! Then, I got seeds to eat. I think they were chia seeds or sesame seeds or something like that, but anyways, they tasted REALLY good! I love eating seeds! I got my name "Chi-Chi" (given by Theodore) because when I chirp, it so

Hatching Chicks!

On the way back from our family road trip, we visited the Lu Family (Peace, Joyce, Grace, Justice, Providence, Assurance). They live in Northern CA and they have chicks, hens, and a rooster. They generously gave us eggs from their hens, and we brought them home to Southern CA and tried to hatch them. Today, on 8/23, in the afternoon, we heard a peep from the incubator. Our first chick started to hatch!!! We were sooo excited!!! Late in the afternoon, 5pm, and the chick was out already!!! Below is a video of our first chick drying up after hatching!!! It is so adorable!!! It is still wet, but it will fluff up soon! Here is the link to the follow-up post:  Chi-Chi the Chick

When you're bored on a road trip... WHAT TO DO!!!

Image
Everyone who's been on a road trip knows that sometimes, you get bored during the long hours on the road.  Especially when everything outside the window looks like this: You're fastened to your seat, you can't move around, and you are plain  bored. When that happens, you usually try to find something fun to do, like reading a book or a magazine. But when you've already read all the books and magazines on the car 3+ times ? Hmmm... why not talk with your siblings and recite verses ? But when you've talked for 3 hours straight and recited all the verses you know and there is absolutely nothing to do... THIS IS WHAT YOU DO!!! look below for details: The family comedian was the first, of course... Then everyone joined in! Even Catherine, the serious bookworm...  ...and even me!!! Now you know what to do when you get bored on a road trip!!! Good luck, and hopefully you'll never get bored enough to do th

Seabridge Park!!!

Today, we went to Seabridge Park (in Huntington Beach) with the Lu Family (kids: Nathan, Joshua, Bella, Noah). Seabridge Park is a lagoon, and there are no waves so it is very safe. It is also part of the ocean, so the water is salty. We had a great time playing and wading in the water. Theodore enjoyed paddling. We also had fun digging a pool and building a sand castle. The best part was burying people in the sand. We buried Noah and Bella. Below is a video of us burying Bella inside the sand.

On 8/8, we took a trip to the OC fair! That day there was a special program where you could donate 5 clothing items and get a free ticket to the OC fair. That's just what we did to get our tickets! Explorium - Rainforest Experience At the Explorium, we visited the Rainforest Experience. Posing for a photo before going in to the exhibit: We got to see lots of exotic animals in the Rainforest Experience . Inside, we got to see lots of creepy snakes. There were also tarantulas! They were 8 inches in diameter. On display: Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches! You may pet one if you wish. I did! Here are all the rest of the cockroaches: Camels Did you know that Camels can drink up to 30 gallons  at a time? I just learned that at the Camel Show  at the OC fair! In the Camel Show , we learned about how to take care of camels. We also learned about how to milk a camel. It is different from milking a cow and it takes a lot of work and cooperatio

Proclaim! Day at our Local Bee

Image
It's hard to believe that we are already done with the Thrive Summer Study in James! So many memories and so many friends have been made during the Local Bible Bee meetings. It feels like yesterday we just began the summer study, and now Proclaim! Day is already over! Time passes so fast! Our last Local Bee Meeting Our Local Bee's Proclaim! Day this year was on 8/4. At 9am, we began our recitations. After reciting, each contestant took the 8-question test. On average, it took about 5 minutes. I was really nervous beforehand because I might not pass, but I found out that it was not as bad as I thought it was. After we finished reciting our verses and taking the 8-question test, we all went outside and played Capture the Flag until 11 am. "Discussing Rules" in playing Capture the Flag Playing Capture the Flag 11am was the "Awards Ceremony". First, we all had a chance to recite on stage. It was optional, and any contestant who wa
