The OC fair

On 8/8, we took a trip to the OC fair! That day there was a special program where you could donate 5 clothing items and get a free ticket to the OC fair. That's just what we did to get our tickets!

Explorium - Rainforest Experience

At the Explorium, we visited the Rainforest Experience.

We got to see lots of exotic animals in the Rainforest Experience.

Inside, we got to see lots of creepy snakes.



There were also tarantulas! They were 8 inches in diameter.


On display: Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches!

You may pet one if you wish. I did!

Camels

Did you know that Camels can drink up to 30 gallons at a time? I just learned that at the Camel Show at the OC fair!


In the Camel Show, we learned about how to take care of camels.


We also learned about how to milk a camel. It is different from milking a cow and it takes a lot of work and cooperation!


At the end of the show, we all got to touch the camel.

Turkey Stampede!!! 

The Turkey Stampede was the best show of all!


In the turkey stampede, there were turkeys and Big Red. Big Red is a red truck that has food in it for the turkeys. The turkeys chase after Big Red, and the race is on!

Below is a video of the turkey stampede! It's funny to see how turkeys run!


There were two teams, the red team and the white team. The red turkeys always won, because the chased after the food all the time. However, I think that the white ones were actually the smart ones because they would wait until the truck comes by and then jump in for the food.

Rides!

I love going on carnival rides. Anabel and I went on the Ferris Wheel. There were 3 Ferris Wheels at the fair, one very big one, one big one, and one small one. We went on the small one! It's the best!


The Crazy Coaster is one of my favorites! Anabel, Theodore, and I went on this one.


Anabel and Theodore went on the BIG TOP. It was Theodore's first time. Anabel thoroughly enjoyed the ride, Theodore didn't as much.

When my siblings and I were younger, our family would go to OC Fair every summer. We have great memories from the Centennial Farm and the Read & Ride program. The last time I went to OC Fair was before the COVID-19 pandemic.  This August 2023, my sisters and I and some friends went to the OC Fair together (the rest of the family wanted to come but weren't able to make it this time). Grand Canyon (6/16)

Tuesday, June 16th 2020 We are in Arizona! We were so blessed to be able to visit the Grand Canyon! "O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions—" -Psalm 104:26 My family at the Grand Canyon! Highlights from Lava Beds National Monument - part 1 (6/27/2023 Tuesday)

It's been a while since I last posted on this blog (last post in 2020)! Time has flown by so quickly. For 2020, 2021, and 2022, our family has been blessed to do a fun summer road trip from CA to the east coast. We've been blessed to visit the OH Scriptorium, dear friends, and fun places along the way. This year, we weren't able to make it to the east coast again, but we are doing a short 1-week trip up to northern CA and Oregon.  My family and I were blessed to visit Lava Beds National Monument again! Mushpot is a beginner cave with paved paths and lighting inside. Crater Lake National Park

We were blessed to visit Crater Lake on 6/28 Wednesday! This lake is the deepest volcanic lake in the world and the deepest lake in the United States. And, it's so cool and beautiful! (photo taken by Dad) Even in the middle of the summer, with daytime temperatures warm enough to wear T-shirts, there is snow!

Highlights from Lava Beds National Monument - part 2

On Thursday 6/29/2023, we visited Lava Beds National Monument again! We got to explore Hopkin's chocolate cave, Golden Dome cave, and Hercules' leg cave.  Enjoy these photos! Outside the caves, there was a sweet butterfly that kept flying around us. Then, it landed on Catherine's helmet and didn't want to leave. I was able to get some beautiful close-up pictures. Here we are outside Golden Dome cave!  Dad outside a cave (I think it's a different one from the one above. It's our car in the background, too!) I think this entrance is called the "headache" entrance or something like that. That is because the entrance is so narrow that people sometimes accidentally bump their head on the ledge! A Special Birthday

Many, many years ago, on a special day in a special month in a special year, a special, chubby 8-pound baby was born.  She had a special name: Grace. This Grace had an older sister who was 18 months old. Then Grace grew and grew. This is Grace when she was 1 years old: When Grace was 18 months old, she had a new baby sister. She was a big sister now. It wasn't so easy being a big sister. Then, she had her 2nd birthday. 6 months after that, a baby brother came along. Grace was 2 and a half years old. Grace loved her baby brother. Grace kept on growing. She was now 3 and a half. This picture was taken at the museum: Then Grace turned 4. Then 5. Grace's older sister would often take Grace and her siblings on adventures. Then Grace turned 6. This birthday was celebrated in Fuzhou, China. Grace was growing so fast! Then Grace turned 7. Sneek peeks of Huntington Beach Local Bee!

Here are some sneak peeks of all the fun we are having at Huntington Beach Local Bee this summer! Every Sunday since June 2nd, 20-some contestants and their families get together at Huntington Beach to study for the Bible Bee together! Our Local Bee's wonderful hosts are two sisters, Kristie and Joanna Tang! Huntington Beach Local Bee: Kristi, Julianna, Anabel, Hannah, Bethany Huntington Beach Local Bee: Theodore, Joshua, Daniel Contestant Introductions! (6/2- Anabel) Each Local Bee meeting begins with a lesson, which is usually about the Unit we studied in the Discovery Journal for the week. Kristie and Joanna (our co-hosts) pull names out of a hat each week. Whoever's name is pulled out gets to go up on stage and recite a passage in front of everyone! Israel

On our trip to Israel, we flew on an Israeli airline called EL AL. Our first meal had pasta, chicken, pita bread (delicious!), grapes, potato chips, a slice of chocolate cake, and a drink.  After fifteen hours on the airplane, we landed in Israel.  As soon as the airplane touched the ground, almost everyone in the plane shouted and clapped.  Was it because our airplane stayed safe (and in the air) throughout the whole flight? We went through the customs, got our three tiny luggage (each less than 2 feet tall and 1 foot wide) from the baggage claim, and exited the airport.  The ride to the apartment where we would be staying was quite long.  However, I happened to be sitting next to my brother, who is both a very good comedian and a very good storyteller.  For the whole ride I sat listening to his entertaining story of animals (deer, cows, horses, skunks, and rabbits). Animals in Israel

We got to see lots of Animals in Israel! We especially got to see lots of adorable cats. There was a time when there were too many mice in Israel. So, they imported lots of cats. The mice population died down. The cats stayed. We visited a family in Migdal. They showed us their pet turtle and let us ride on their horse Dusty. We also got to see many birds in Israel. There were many birds in the Old City of Jerusalem and at the Western Wall. They liked to sit in the cracks of the Old walls. In Tel Aviv, we got to see lots of crabs at the beach. There were gray-speckled crabs and even white crabs! Watch this video to see the crabs walking! We also saw lions in the Old City!
