Animals in Israel

We got to see lots of Animals in Israel!

We especially got to see lots of adorable cats. There was a time when there were too many mice in Israel. So, they imported lots of cats. The mice population died down. The cats stayed.


We visited a family in Migdal. They showed us their pet turtle and let us ride on their horse Dusty.


We also got to see many birds in Israel.

There were many birds in the Old City of Jerusalem and at the Western Wall. They liked to sit in the cracks of the Old walls.

In Tel Aviv, we got to see lots of crabs at the beach. There were gray-speckled crabs and even white crabs!

We also saw lions in the Old City!

It's great that the lions weren't alive... or else we wouldn't be alive.

 We got to see a bear, too!

And Llamas and Camels!

Many, many years ago, on a special day in a special month in a special year, a special, chubby 8-pound baby was born.  She had a special name: Grace. This Grace had an older sister who was 18 months old. Then Grace grew and grew. This is Grace when she was 1 years old: When Grace was 18 months old, she had a new baby sister. 3 Special Fruits of Taiwan

More about Taiwan... 3 Special fruits of Taiwan & their Taiwanese names! This fruit looks like banana, but it is not a regular type of banana. It is known as Ban Jiao . It has a stronger fragrance than regular bananas, and it is also sweeter. Eat these when they are ripe! The Ban Jiao  in first picture below are not ripe and will not  taste good. The ones in the second picture are ripe and tasted very good! This fruit below is called Mi Zhao . It tastes like jujubees, but it is larger and juicier.  Be careful when you buy these, because if they are overripe, they have a milky taste and don't taste very good. Taiwanese people call this fruit below  Lien Bu. It is juicy and sweet. This fruit is also very expensive if you buy it in stores, so go to the market to get these.  At the market, you can get about 12 for 100 Taiwanese yuan! We got to eat lots of these during our last few days in Taiwan. Thank you for reading!

Highlights from Lava Beds National Monument - part 1 (6/27/2023 Tuesday)

It's been a while since I last posted on this blog (last post in 2020)! Time has flown by so quickly. For 2020, 2021, and 2022, our family has been blessed to do a fun summer road trip from CA to the east coast. We've been blessed to visit the OH Scriptorium, dear friends, and fun places along the way. This year, we weren't able to make it to the east coast again, but we are doing a short 1-week trip up to northern CA and Oregon.  My family and I were blessed to visit Lava Beds National Monument again! Mushpot is a beginner cave with paved paths and lighting inside. The Humming Bird Aviary (at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum)

On our way back to California from Texas, we visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum! My favorite part of the Museum was the Hummingbird Aviary.  Here are some pictures of the hummingbirds. Enjoy! This little bird was eating from the feeder: Hummingbirds come in all colors, including green! One of the best places to find hummingbirds is next to the feeders. More little hummingbirds... Hummingbirds are small and hard to spot, but it's fun to find them! The best surprise of all: A hummingbird nest!!!

Chi-Chi the Chick

Hello everyone! I am Chi-Chi ( pronounced "chee-chee") the Chick! I was born on August 23rd, 2018. This is me hatching: When I came out of the egg, I looked kind of dead: But when I became fluffy, I was just the opposite! I started pecking at the other eggs! You see, I just wanted a friend. Finally, one of my siblings started to hatch! I was sooooooo excited! Then something went wrong and the temperature dropped. I don't know why, but my sibling stopped breathing. In the end, I turned out to be the only chick that hatched successfully. In the beginning, I was given cooked white rice to eat. I tried a piece, but I guess I just didn't like the taste. Instead I nestled down and sat right on top of the rice pan! Then, I got seeds to eat. I think they were chia seeds or sesame seeds or something like that, but anyways, they tasted REALLY good! Crater Lake National Park

We were blessed to visit Crater Lake on 6/28 Wednesday! This lake is the deepest volcanic lake in the world and the deepest lake in the United States. And, it's so cool and beautiful! (photo taken by Dad) Even in the middle of the summer, with daytime temperatures warm enough to wear T-shirts, there is snow!

Fried foods!

The Chen family's kitchen! Making fried foods: 1. Prepare fresh ingredients to fry (prepare salmon, cut and wash vegetable to fry) 2. Mix flower and water until thick and smooth. No eggs needed. 3. Playgrounds in Israel

We got to visit lots of playgrounds in Israel! They are different from the ones in the U.S. and they are really fun! This playground was in the Old City, Jerusalem.  The swing was really fun! The park was really fun! You could slide down and also climb up! Sliding down! There were also two long blue slides! We also got to visit two parks in Tel Aviv. The first park was like an amusement park. It had like 20+ swings! This park also had two of the swings that we saw in Jerusalem! This park also had a giant playground with at least 12 slides! There was something that you could go on and it would take you down to the ground! Near this park in Tel Aviv was another park. It was really fun, too. A visit to Migdal, Israel

After we visited the Sea of Galilee, we drove up to Migdal to visit our friends, the Gottfried family. Migdal is near the anicent city of Magdalene, where Mary Magdalene was from.  We drove to Migdal. Since our friends live in the countryside, they don't have an address. We got lost and we didn't know how to get to their house. Thankfully, we met their friend, who called the Gottfreids and told them where to meet up with us.  A few minutes later, a horse came trotting on the road with Josh (the oldest) and his aunt on its back. Beside the horse came the family car. We followed the horse and car to their house. We had a great afternoon with the Gottfrieds. The kids showed us their horse, Dusty, and their aunt gave us all a ride on Dusty. Dusty is a very obedient and calm horse. Below is Theodore on Dusty. Behind him, in the distance, is Mount Arbel.
