Seabridge Park!!!

Today, we went to Seabridge Park (in Huntington Beach) with the Lu Family (kids: Nathan, Joshua, Bella, Noah).

Seabridge Park is a lagoon, and there are no waves so it is very safe. It is also part of the ocean, so the water is salty.


We had a great time playing and wading in the water.


Theodore enjoyed paddling.


We also had fun digging a pool and building a sand castle.


The best part was burying people in the sand. We buried Noah and Bella. Below is a video of us burying Bella inside the sand.

Many, many years ago, on a special day in a special month in a special year, a special, chubby 8-pound baby was born.  She had a special name: Grace. Highlights from Lava Beds National Monument - part 1 (6/27/2023 Tuesday)

It's been a while since I last posted on this blog (last post in 2020)! Time has flown by so quickly. For 2020, 2021, and 2022, our family has been blessed to do a fun summer road trip from CA to the east coast. We've been blessed to visit the OH Scriptorium, dear friends, and fun places along the way. This year, we weren't able to make it to the east coast again, but we are doing a short 1-week trip up to northern CA and Oregon.  My family and I were blessed to visit Lava Beds National Monument again! Mushpot is a beginner cave with paved paths and lighting inside. 3 Special Fruits of Taiwan

More about Taiwan... 3 Special fruits of Taiwan & their Taiwanese names! This fruit looks like banana, but it is not a regular type of banana. It is known as Ban Jiao . It has a stronger fragrance than regular bananas, and it is also sweeter. Eat these when they are ripe! The Ban Jiao  in first picture below are not ripe and will not  taste good. The ones in the second picture are ripe and tasted very good! This fruit below is called Mi Zhao . It tastes like jujubees, but it is larger and juicier.  Be careful when you buy these, because if they are overripe, they have a milky taste and don't taste very good. Taiwanese people call this fruit below  Lien Bu. It is juicy and sweet. This fruit is also very expensive if you buy it in stores, so go to the market to get these.  At the market, you can get about 12 for 100 Taiwanese yuan! We got to eat lots of these during our last few days in Taiwan. Thank you for reading!

The Humming Bird Aviary (at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum)

On our way back to California from Texas, we visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum! My favorite part of the Museum was the Hummingbird Aviary.  Here are some pictures of the hummingbirds. Enjoy! This little bird was eating from the feeder: Hummingbirds come in all colors, including green! One of the best places to find hummingbirds is next to the feeders. More little hummingbirds... Hummingbirds are small and hard to spot, but it's fun to find them! The best surprise of all: A hummingbird nest!!!

Crater Lake National Park

We were blessed to visit Crater Lake on 6/28 Wednesday! This lake is the deepest volcanic lake in the world and the deepest lake in the United States. And, it's so cool and beautiful! (photo taken by Dad) Even in the middle of the summer, with daytime temperatures warm enough to wear T-shirts, there is snow!

The Chen family's kitchen! Making fried foods: 1. Prepare fresh ingredients to fry (prepare salmon, cut and wash vegetable to fry) 2. Mix flower and water until thick and smooth. No eggs needed. 3. Chi-Chi the Chick

Hello everyone! I am Chi-Chi ( pronounced "chee-chee") the Chick! I was born on August 23rd, 2018. This is me hatching: When I came out of the egg, I looked kind of dead: But when I became fluffy, I was just the opposite! I started pecking at the other eggs! You see, I just wanted a friend. Finally, one of my siblings started to hatch! I was sooooooo excited! Then something went wrong and the temperature dropped. I don't know why, but my sibling stopped breathing. In the end, I turned out to be the only chick that hatched successfully. In the beginning, I was given cooked white rice to eat. I tried a piece, but I guess I just didn't like the taste. Instead I nestled down and sat right on top of the rice pan! Then, I got seeds to eat. I think they were chia seeds or sesame seeds or something like that, but anyways, they tasted REALLY good! I love eating seeds! I got my name "Chi-Chi" (given by Theodore) because when I chirp, it so...

Boat Ride!

On January 31st, we rode the boat from Taiwan to Fuzhou! The boat we rode was big and spacious.  Unlike an airplane, you can easily walk around, and there is lots of leg room. There is even a place on the boat to buy food! The view outside the window of the boat was very beautiful! Here is the view when we were about to depart from Taiwan: There were instructions in the seat pocket about what to do in an emergency: Thankfully, we didn't have an emergency on the boat! Below is my sister's bunny sitting on the seat: This is Theodore and Catherine on the boat: Anabel on the boat: After the boat departed from the harbor, I fell asleep. Two hours later, I awoke to the voice of the announcer  saying, "We have just passed the midline between the waters of Taiwan to the waters of China." The boat ride was pretty smooth. About 2 hours later, we arrived in Fuzhou!

Ice Skating in Beijing!!!

Happy New Year, everyone! It's winter here in Beijing. It's REALLY cold here compared to sunny California: about -10 degrees Celsius! It's so cold that the lake freezes, so we get to ice skate outside on the lake! We had a lot of fun ice skating this week! You can see everyone's different personalities when we ice skate. The Lord made each of us with different personalities.   Catherine picked up ice skating quickly and skated like a pro from the moment she started. Anabel and I were the more careful ones - we started slow, and made sure not to fall.  Theodore always skated as fast as he could, and, of course, he fell down MANY times.  But it's ok to fall down, right? Just get up again! We all had a lot of fun - praise God! We are looking forward to ice skating again! To all our friends from all over the world who are reading this: We miss you all a lot!  We wish you a Happy New year and see you in the next post!
