Chi-Chi the Chick

Hello everyone! I am Chi-Chi ( pronounced "chee-chee") the Chick!

 I was born on August 23rd, 2018. This is me hatching:

When I came out of the egg, I looked kind of dead:

But when I became fluffy, I was just the opposite! I started pecking at the other eggs! You see, I just wanted a friend.

Finally, one of my siblings started to hatch! I was sooooooo excited! Then something went wrong and the temperature dropped. I don't know why, but my sibling stopped breathing. In the end, I turned out to be the only chick that hatched successfully.

 In the beginning, I was given cooked white rice to eat. I tried a piece, but I guess I just didn't like the taste. Instead I nestled down and sat right on top of the rice pan!

 Then, I got seeds to eat. I think they were chia seeds or sesame seeds or something like that, but anyways, they tasted REALLY good!

 I love eating seeds!

I got my name "Chi-Chi" (given by Theodore) because when I chirp, it sounds like "chee! chee!"

 One of my favorite things to do is to move things around. I overturned the water pan (which was for moisture), ripped up newspaper, and rolled the eggs around.

 The Chens had to go to China and they couldn't take me with them. Thankfully, they found a friend who could take care of me. That's where I am now!

Playgrounds in Israel

We got to visit lots of playgrounds in Israel! They are different from the ones in the U.S. and they are really fun! This playground was in the Old City, Jerusalem.  The swing was really fun! The park was really fun! You could slide down and also climb up! Sliding down! There were also two long blue slides! We also got to visit two parks in Tel Aviv. The first park was like an amusement park. It had like 20+ swings! This park also had two of the swings that we saw in Jerusalem! This park also had a giant playground with at least 12 slides! There was something that you could go on and it would take you down to the ground! Near this park in Tel Aviv was another park. It was really fun, too. A tour of the Botanical Garden of the Hebrew University

Today, we went on a tour with Dr. Pfann, the President of the University of the Holy Land. We toured the Botanical Garden of the Hebrew University, and we learned a lot about the plants of the Bible. Israel is in the center of 3 continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa. There are many different climates in Israel, too. This is why there are so many different kinds of plants and flowers that grow in Israel. We first stopped by a lavender plant.  Lavender in Israel looks a bit different from ones in the US, but it smells just as nice! This tree below is the Ceratonia Siliqua , also known as the Carob Tree. The Carob Tree can be used for food and medicine. There are male and female Carob Trees. Animals in Israel

We got to see lots of Animals in Israel! We especially got to see lots of adorable cats. There was a time when there were too many mice in Israel. So, they imported lots of cats. The mice population died down. The cats stayed. We visited a family in Migdal. They showed us their pet turtle and let us ride on their horse Dusty. We also got to see many birds in Israel. There were many birds in the Old City of Jerusalem and at the Western Wall. They liked to sit in the cracks of the Old walls. In Tel Aviv, we got to see lots of crabs at the beach. There were gray-speckled crabs and even white crabs! Watch this video to see the crabs walking! We also saw lions in the Old City! On the Road to Seattle

We're on our Family Road Trip for this year!  This time, we're heading for Seattle! We split the driving part of our trip into two days. On Day #1, we'll be driving from Orange (where we live) to Yreka, a small town near the border of California and Oregon. There would be about 10 hours of driving. Including traffic and rest stops, it would be about 12-13 hours.  California is REALLY  big! From Orange to Yreka On the second day, we'll depart from Yreka, drive through Oregon, and arrive at Seattle. From Yreka to Seattle Day #1 Since we had many hours to drive for the first day, we planned to leave at around 5 in the morning. At the end, we left at 7 am. The trip would be about 12-13 hours (including rest stops and bathroom breaks). BB 2018 - Happy Studying!

Nationals is coming soon! It's already November 4th! The National Bible Bee Competition is less than a month away! Nationals 2017 All of us are very excited. We've been looking forward to this for a whole year! Nationals 2016 It's kind of hard to believe that Nationals is almost here. Time passes so fast! It seems like we just started 2018! Studying... In our home, studying is going pretty well. Of course, there are times when it is hard, but right now we are all having a happy time and lots of fun. We review and perfect our verses and study Philippians and Greek. Now that Nationals is almost here, we have Mock Bible Bee! Mommy is the judge and we are the contestants. We have mock Prelim Orals rounds and mock Semi-final rounds (not yet finals, we'll get to there later). Israel

On our trip to Israel, we flew on an Israeli airline called EL AL. Our first meal had pasta, chicken, pita bread (delicious!), grapes, potato chips, a slice of chocolate cake, and a drink.  After fifteen hours on the airplane, we landed in Israel.  As soon as the airplane touched the ground, almost everyone in the plane shouted and clapped.  Was it because our airplane stayed safe (and in the air) throughout the whole flight? We went through the customs, got our three tiny luggage (each less than 2 feet tall and 1 foot wide) from the baggage claim, and exited the airport.  The ride to the apartment where we would be staying was quite long.  However, I happened to be sitting next to my brother, who is both a very good comedian and a very good storyteller.  For the whole ride I sat listening to his entertaining story of animals (deer, cows, horses, skunks, and rabbits). Flying Heritage and Combat Armor Museum

This museum was one selectively chose by Catherine. She is very interested in war planes, and this museum displays tanks and planes that have been in the war. This tank above is the  R-11M with 8U218 TEL (SS-1b Scud-A) Ballistic Missile System , built by the Soviet Union. Soviet Union tanks are  really  powerful. The Harley-Davidson WLA   motorcycle (below) was made by the United States. They were used for scouting, messenger services, patrol duties, and convoy escort. They can travel up to 120 miles at 65 MPH (on pavement).  The exhibit was REALLY big. There were at least 200 tanks and planes on display. Below are some of them: The  Panzerkampfwagen Ausf. H  made by Germany. The Kettenkrafttrad Sd.Kfz.2  made by Germany. Designed at motorcycle for military. After the war, it was converted to use as farm equipment. Plane! Looking Back - the 8 days of Sukkot in Jerusalem

Looking back, so many things happened this Sukkot in Israel! It was amazing!!! Day 1 On the first day and almost every day throughout the 8 days of Sukkot, we had a lot of fun playing in the Independence Park with kids from Israel and from all over the world. In the evening of the first day of Sukkot, we also attended a worship service in a sukkah at Roeh Israel (Netivyah) . It was amazing meeting people from all over the world, from Germany, England, America, Korea, and Romania! Day 2 On Tuesday, the second day of Sukkot, we visited  the Israel Museum  and had fun watching the kite festival. Day 3 On Wednesday, day 3 of Sukkot, we played at  the Independence park  again and joined some friends in their sukkah at French Hill for a fellowship BBQ. Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument (7/18)

     On the eighteenth of July, we went to Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.  It erupted in 1980. The lava column shot up 15 miles into the air and rushed down the sides of the mountain. All the plants and animals around the volcano were wiped out.  After the eruption, life returned quickly.  Now, the area is filled with even more animals and plants than before the eruption. However, we didn't get to hike on the mountain itself, because it was closed for research. Mount St. Helens      Since we weren't able to go to Mount St. Helens, we went to Johnston Ridge Observatory.  There, we could see the mountain and also learn about it from movies, exhibits, or rangers.
