Chi-Chi the Chick

Hello everyone! I am Chi-Chi ( pronounced "chee-chee") the Chick!

 I was born on August 23rd, 2018. This is me hatching:

When I came out of the egg, I looked kind of dead:

But when I became fluffy, I was just the opposite! I started pecking at the other eggs! You see, I just wanted a friend.

Finally, one of my siblings started to hatch! I was sooooooo excited! Then something went wrong and the temperature dropped. I don't know why, but my sibling stopped breathing. In the end, I turned out to be the only chick that hatched successfully.

 In the beginning, I was given cooked white rice to eat. I tried a piece, but I guess I just didn't like the taste. Instead I nestled down and sat right on top of the rice pan!

 Then, I got seeds to eat. I think they were chia seeds or sesame seeds or something like that, but anyways, they tasted REALLY good!

 I love eating seeds!

I got my name "Chi-Chi" (given by Theodore) because when I chirp, it sounds like "chee! chee!"

 One of my favorite things to do is to move things around. I overturned the water pan (which was for moisture), ripped up newspaper, and rolled the eggs around.

 The Chens had to go to China and they couldn't take me with them. Thankfully, they found a friend who could take care of me. That's where I am now!

Looking Back - the 8 days of Sukkot in Jerusalem

Looking back, so many things happened this Sukkot in Israel! It was amazing!!! Day 1 On the first day and almost every day throughout the 8 days of Sukkot, we had a lot of fun playing in the Independence Park with kids from Israel and from all over the world. In the evening of the first day of Sukkot, we also attended a worship service in a sukkah at Roeh Israel (Netivyah) . It was amazing meeting people from all over the world, from Germany, England, America, Korea, and Romania! Day 2 On Tuesday, the second day of Sukkot, we visited  the Israel Museum  and had fun watching the kite festival. Day 3 On Wednesday, day 3 of Sukkot, we played at  the Independence park  again and joined some friends in their sukkah at French Hill for a fellowship BBQ. Canada!

On the Road On July 18th, we drove from Seattle to Canada. The drive was about 5 hours. On the road there, Theodore entertained us with stories. Theodore tells stories on the car In Canada We stayed in an Airbnb in Surrey, Canada. Surrey is a city near Vancouver. There were lots of trees around the house. It was like living in the woods. The front "yard" This is Anabel in the front yard: Anabel next to the trees This is our car next to the house. The house looks a lot like a cabin.  The Trampoline There was a trampoline in the backyard. It was our favorite part of the house. The night before our flight

On Monday, the day before we would leave for California, we (I and my two younger siblings) finished packing and decided to go for a walk since we would be leaving soon.  In was summer in Beijing, and there were many cicadas in the trees, like usual. Our friend helped us to take care of the tarantula for the time we would be gone, and another friend took care of our turtle.  Even though we didn't need to catch bugs for our tarantula to eat, we decided to catch some anyway and then let them go. Since we went out at night, many tiny bugs were on the lights.  They were fun to watch and play with. This is us watching the light with the bugs. When we were walking, we something flying in the air. I thought it was a moth, but it wasn't. My brother caught it with a plastic box and we found out that it was a beetle. Sacramento: Family Conference

     This year, our family went to the Family Conference in Sacramento.  This year's theme was "Trust in the LORD".  My younger sister went to a program called "PRE-EMBASSY", and I went to COMMIT in the morning and Student Sessions in the afternoon.  The rest of our family attended the General Session. Tuesday      On the first day of the conference, we registered at around 5:00pm and listened to a few talks that night. Wednesday      On the first day of COMMIT, we learned a song called "Still, my soul be still", which we practiced every day and sang at the end of the Conference.  Also, we each received our COMMIT booklet.  Inside the booklet, there were devotionals for each day at the conference and pages for notes. Playgrounds in Israel

We got to visit lots of playgrounds in Israel! They are different from the ones in the U.S. and they are really fun! This playground was in the Old City, Jerusalem.  The swing was really fun! The park was really fun! You could slide down and also climb up! Sliding down! There were also two long blue slides! We also got to visit two parks in Tel Aviv. The first park was like an amusement park. It had like 20+ swings! This park also had two of the swings that we saw in Jerusalem! This park also had a giant playground with at least 12 slides! There was something that you could go on and it would take you down to the ground! Near this park in Tel Aviv was another park. It was really fun, too. At the Beach in San Diego!

Weekend family trip to San Diego! At the beach... Seashells... Scenery... "The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,  The world and those who dwell therein.  For He has founded it upon the seas,  And established it upon the waters." -Psalm 24:1-2 There was a hole in the ground that was connected to the ocean. There was a stream in it, and water flowed in and out with the waves.  It was pretty wide - maybe 3 or 4 feet at its width. Catherine decided to go for a challenge and jumped across! Tide pools... There were lots of plants, snails, and little crabs in the tide pools.  I wrote my name in the sand, just for fun. Everything in God's creation is so unique! Up in the air! Beijing to Vancouver...

We're up in the air again! This time, from Beijing to Vancouver (we'll be transferring there)! The wind was big and strong today, but the sky was blue and the clouds were white and puffy. We waited in the plane for a while, because it was not safe to fly in such a strong wind. Meanwhile, we were busy taking pictures! Freckles the bunny on the plane:  Anabel: As usual, there was a Safety Booklet that taught you about what to do in the case of an emergency. Also located in the pocket of the seat in front of you was a magazine: Air Canada's magazine. The magazine was mostly about duty-free items for sale, advertisements, and news articles, but there was also a fun puzzle inside! There was also a description of the planes in the Air Canada fleet. The Shuk in Israel

Whenever someone asks me, "What is your favorite place that you visited in Israel?", I always answer, "The Shuk". "Shuk" means "street market" in Hebrew. I love going to the Shuk. The Shuk is always full of life and bustling with people. It is a very exciting place to visit in Jerusalem. There are the most people in the Shuk on Friday morning. This is because the Shuk closes early on Friday because of Shabbat and everyone needs to buy extra food ahead of time. Here is a picture of one of the emptier streets in the Shuk: Almost every type of food is sold in the Shuk: meat, vegetables, fruit, bread, grains, rice, spices, dessert, candy, and packaged food. The most colorful and attractive shops of the Shuk sell candy. We don't buy candy, but it looks very tempting. The smaller candy sells at 3 or 4 for 10 shekels. 1 dollar equals 3.67 shekels, so 10 shekels equals 2.73 dollars. Cookies are also sold at the Shuk. They are mo...
