3 Special Fruits of Taiwan

Image
More about Taiwan... 3 Special fruits of Taiwan & their Taiwanese names! This fruit looks like banana, but it is not a regular type of banana. It is known as Ban Jiao . It has a stronger fragrance than regular bananas, and it is also sweeter. Eat these when they are ripe! The Ban Jiao  in first picture below are not ripe and will not  taste good. The ones in the second picture are ripe and tasted very good! This fruit below is called Mi Zhao . It tastes like jujubees, but it is larger and juicier.  Be careful when you buy these, because if they are overripe, they have a milky taste and don't taste very good. Taiwanese people call this fruit below  Lien Bu. It is juicy and sweet. This fruit is also very expensive if you buy it in stores, so go to the market to get these.  At the market, you can get about 12 for 100 Taiwanese yuan! We got to eat lots of these during our last few days in Taiwan. Thank you for reading!

5 favorite desserts in Taiwan!

Taiwan is the food-lover's paradise. If you walk on the street, you will discover that about 70% of the stores sell some kind of food, about 29% sell clothes, and about 1% sells pets and toys. I really love eating dessert (though I eat with self-control), so in this post, I will write about some of my 5 favorite desserts in Taiwan. #1 I will first introduce the Pearl Milk Tea! I'm not sure if this counts as a dessert, but I think it tastes good enough to be one! #2 Mochi is also one of my favorite desserts in Taiwan. You can find many flavors of mochi here in Taiwan. Below is the peanut-sesame flavored mochi . #3 Another of my favorite desserts in Taiwan are the buns and the bread. The buns and bread in Taiwan are all soft and sweet. Most of them have butter and milk, so they all taste like dessert. Below is my favorite bun - Taro bun! #4 Theodore cannot eat most of the buns in Taiwan because they usually contain egg or mi

Aboard the High Speed Rail in Taiwan!!!

Welcome to the High Speed Rail in Taiwan! We are going to Xin Zhu today to visit some friends. On the High Speed Rail, it is one stop (30 minutes) from Taichong to Xin Zhu. For lunch, we ate the High Speed Rail lunch box. We bought 3 lunch boxes, and we shared each between two people (there are 6 of us). Each lunch box costs 100 Taiwanese Yuan (about $3.25 USD). There are 3 lunch boxes to choose from: Pork, Beef, and Vegetarian. We love eating vegetables, so we ordered the Vegetarian Lunch box. Inside the lunch box was purple rice, cabbage, vegetables, pumpkin, mushroom, and ginger. We usually don't eat take-out food, so this was a special treat. Below is Theodore enjoying his meal on the High Speed Rail! The box of the meal had a picture of Taiwan with lots of adorable animals on it. After eating the High Speed Rail Lunchbox, I started to like eating ginger! I used to be afraid of eating ginger, but now I actually like eating ginger. Transpo

The Taiwanese Market

Image
The Market in Taiwan is a very fun and exciting place to be in. It is a lot like the Shuk in Israel . The Market is noisy and crowded, and almost everything is sold there. You can find fruits, vegetables, purses, shoes, clothes, fish, noodles, pastries, hot pot, and even fresh clams and pig hooves! We visited the Market around Lunchtime, so we looked for hot food first. Below is Theodore eating the delicious sweet potato (the purple kind) pancake! The vendors made them on the spot, so they were fresh and hot. We bought 2 for 50 Taiwanese yuan. Roughly 30 Taiwanese yuan equals 1 US dollar. Mmm! We also ate egg pancake with cheese. Daddy ordered one with cabbage in it. The lady also made the egg pancakes on the spot! Each egg pancake was around 30 Taiwanese yuan. We also bought roasted duck for dinner! The vendor said that they've been making duck for 21 years already! Roasted duck vendor: Another vendor sold nuts and dried fruit. We

Duck Hot Pot in Taiwan!

Yesterday (1/18), we flew from Beijing to Taiwan. After arriving at the airport and going through customs, we took the bus to Taichong. After that, we waited for 30 minutes at the bus station, and then took the bus to our apartment in Taichong.  By the time we arrived at our apartment in Taichong, it was 10pm, and we were all VERY hungry.  After dropping off our luggage, we went outside. Even though it was late at night, a lot of restaurants and stores on the street were still open.  One of the restaurants that was still open was a Huo Guo  restaurant.  There, we got to eat a delicious dinner of Duck 火锅 "Huo Guo", also known as "Hot Pot". QUICK EXCERPT ABOUT TAIWAN... In Taiwan, restaurants and take-out meals are very different from the ones in America. The restaurant and take-out meals taste almost like home-cooked meals.  The meals are reasonably  priced, so many Taiwanese eat outside instead of cooking at home.  There are also a wide variety

From Beijing to Taiwan!!!

Today we flew from Beijing to Taiwan! While we were waiting at the airport, we visited a small exhibit about the forbidden city. Inside the exhibit, we watched a video about the Palace Museum and the Forbidden City. At the exhibit, there were interactive screens that displayed ancient artifacts of the Forbidden City. You could enlarge the artifacts and twist them around on the screens. We learned a lot about the artifacts and their origins. There was also a wall in the exhibit with beautiful Chinese characters. The best part of the exhibit was "Ancient Chinese Drawing Screen". There were 4 chinese paintings to choose from. You could fill in the painting with your own colors.  After that, you put in your own inscription. You can choose to put in your own inscription, o r use their inscription. You can also do both. Finally, you created your own seal. Below is Anabel's seal.
