The flight to California
In the morning, a taxi drove us to the airport. We went through security check, and walked to our boarding gate. We would be flying on Asiana Airlines, and since my Dad was a diamond member, he could go the lounge for free. He could also bring one person. He wanted to bring my Mom, but it wouldn't be safe to leave all of us outside, so my older sister went with him. The rest of us stayed at the boarding gate and reviewed/memorized our Bible Bee passages. Below is my sister memorizing her early release passages.
There are many planes going to and leaving the Beijing airport, so there is a lot of air traffic. Most of the time, when we fly from Beijing, our airplane will be delayed, and once we missed our next flight because of the delays. This time, the flight only delayed about thirty minutes, but after we boarded the plane, we had to wait some time before we could take off. We ate an early dinner on the plane. The chocolate cake tasted delicious.
I sat next to the window at the wing of the plane. This is a picture when we landed a few hours later at South Korea (Seoul, Incheon).
Although we arrived late, there was still 30 minutes left after we went through the transfer security check. At first, it was planned that I go to the lounge with Dad this time, but I (and my two younger siblings) wanted to do the crafts that we did whenever we transferred at Korea. So my older sister went with my Dad to the lounge.
This is my brother made at the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation. I made a red one. We were supposed to have an hour left before our boarding time to be able to make a craft, but the lady there was very nice and let us make the craft even though we only had 30 minutes left.
When we finished, the lady put our craft in a box and then put it into a plastic bag with a small piece of paper that had information about the craft we made.
There were many small children on the plane, and the flight attendant gave them and us each a small fun pack so the kids wouldn't get bored.
The airplane we went on was huge. It was an A380-800 and it had two floors. There were about 180+ rows in total (including business class), and each row in economy class (I'm not sure how many were in business class) had 10 seats. There were three seats on the left, then four seats in the center, and three on the right.
In the seat pocket on the plane there were magazines and a pamphlet about the plane and other information (like emergencies).
There were headphones to use.
A screen was also on the seat in front.
Above, on the ceiling, there were reading lights. When the seat belt sign was on (like during a turbulence), everyone needed to put on their seat belts and return to their seats.
Our flight would only be about 10 hours, but it would overlap with our sleeping time, so the airline provided a pillow and blanket.
The meal was delicious. They gave us a lot of junk food in a box for each meal (two for this flight).
On the screen, we could also call each other and talk, like on a phone. The only person I talked with on the "phone", though, was my younger sister, who was right beside me.
There were also free toothbrushes with a tube of toothpaste to use after meals. It was very convenient.
There was also something on the screen called "Landscape Camera". You could see what was in front of the plane.
This is how Landscape Camera looked like before we took off. The video below is when we took off.
On our second flight, I happened to be seated around the wing again. This picture is about half an hour before we landed at LAX, and we could already see the ground below.
This is when we landed.
After we went through customs, my uncle came, picked us up from the airport, and drove us home. I am thankful that God was with us throughout the trip and that He brought us safely back home.
