On the way to San Antonio...

It's already 12/2! We're on the way to San Antonio, Texas for the National Bible Bee!

 After 20+ hours of driving, we're finally in Texas! On the road, we were reciting verses, reviewing CR's and Greek, listening to hours of sermons, dreaming about Bible Bee, and napping (the best way to pass time!)...

 Tonight, we're staying at a resort one hour away from San Antonio. Tomorrow is registration!

 As we were driving to the resort, we were surprised by a tarantula in the middle of the road. It was sooooo COOL!



We really wished we could keep it as a pet, but we knew that it would have a happier life in the wild.

We also got to see birds on the side of the road.

In the evening, we went for a relaxing hike in the woods. 




During our hike, we discovered some footprints.


After the hike, we had a fun time playing games.




Tomorrow, early in the morning, we will drive to San Antonio. It will be registration day for Bible Bee! We are all VERY excited!!!

Playgrounds in Israel

We got to visit lots of playgrounds in Israel! They are different from the ones in the U.S. and they are really fun! This playground was in the Old City, Jerusalem.  The swing was really fun! The park was really fun! You could slide down and also climb up! Sliding down! There were also two long blue slides! We also got to visit two parks in Tel Aviv. The first park was like an amusement park. It had like 20+ swings! This park also had two of the swings that we saw in Jerusalem! This park also had a giant playground with at least 12 slides! There was something that you could go on and it would take you down to the ground! Near this park in Tel Aviv was another park. It was really fun, too. A tour of the Botanical Garden of the Hebrew University

Today, we went on a tour with Dr. Pfann, the President of the University of the Holy Land. We toured the Botanical Garden of the Hebrew University, and we learned a lot about the plants of the Bible. Israel is in the center of 3 continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa. There are many different climates in Israel, too. This is why there are so many different kinds of plants and flowers that grow in Israel. We first stopped by a lavender plant.  Lavender in Israel looks a bit different from ones in the US, but it smells just as nice! This tree below is the Ceratonia Siliqua , also known as the Carob Tree. The Carob Tree can be used for food and medicine. There are male and female Carob Trees. This tree is a male tree because of the stamens on the branches. We will talk more about carob beans at the end of the post. Below is the  Majorana Syriaca , the hyssop of the Bible. Flying Heritage and Combat Armor Museum

This museum was one selectively chose by Catherine. She is very interested in war planes, and this museum displays tanks and planes that have been in the war. This tank above is the  R-11M with 8U218 TEL (SS-1b Scud-A) Ballistic Missile System , built by the Soviet Union. Soviet Union tanks are  really  powerful. The Harley-Davidson WLA   motorcycle (below) was made by the United States. They were used for scouting, messenger services, patrol duties, and convoy escort. They can travel up to 120 miles at 65 MPH (on pavement).  The exhibit was REALLY big. There were at least 200 tanks and planes on display. Below are some of them: The  Panzerkampfwagen Ausf. H  made by Germany. The Kettenkrafttrad Sd.Kfz.2  made by Germany. Designed at motorcycle for military. After the war, it was converted to use as farm equipment. Plane! On our trip to Israel, we flew on an Israeli airline called EL AL. Our first meal had pasta, chicken, pita bread (delicious!), grapes, potato chips, a slice of chocolate cake, and a drink.  After fifteen hours on the airplane, we landed in Israel.  As soon as the airplane touched the ground, almost everyone in the plane shouted and clapped.  Was it because our airplane stayed safe (and in the air) throughout the whole flight? We went through the customs, got our three tiny luggage (each less than 2 feet tall and 1 foot wide) from the baggage claim, and exited the airport.  The ride to the apartment where we would be staying was quite long.  However, I happened to be sitting next to my brother, who is both a very good comedian and a very good storyteller.  For the whole ride I sat listening to his entertaining story of animals (deer, cows, horses, skunks, and rabbits). Animals in Israel

We got to see lots of Animals in Israel! We especially got to see lots of adorable cats. There was a time when there were too many mice in Israel. So, they imported lots of cats. The mice population died down. The cats stayed. We visited a family in Migdal. They showed us their pet turtle and let us ride on their horse Dusty. We also got to see many birds in Israel. There were many birds in the Old City of Jerusalem and at the Western Wall. They liked to sit in the cracks of the Old walls. In Tel Aviv, we got to see lots of crabs at the beach. There were gray-speckled crabs and even white crabs! Watch this video to see the crabs walking! We also saw lions in the Old City! Looking Back - the 8 days of Sukkot in Jerusalem

Looking back, so many things happened this Sukkot in Israel! It was amazing!!! Day 1 On the first day and almost every day throughout the 8 days of Sukkot, we had a lot of fun playing in the Independence Park with kids from Israel and from all over the world. In the evening of the first day of Sukkot, we also attended a worship service in a sukkah at Roeh Israel (Netivyah) . It was amazing meeting people from all over the world, from Germany, England, America, Korea, and Romania! Day 2 On Tuesday, the second day of Sukkot, we visited  the Israel Museum  and had fun watching the kite festival. Day 3 On Wednesday, day 3 of Sukkot, we played at  the Independence park  again and joined some friends in their sukkah at French Hill for a fellowship BBQ. Our friends' sukkah Arm wrestling at Independence Park Day 4 Thursday, the 4th day, was the Jerusalem March! The Jerusalem March was one of the best parts of this Sukkot. ...

When you're bored on a road trip... WHAT TO DO!!!

Everyone who's been on a road trip knows that sometimes, you get bored during the long hours on the road.  Especially when everything outside the window looks like this: You're fastened to your seat, you can't move around, and you are plain  bored. When that happens, you usually try to find something fun to do, like reading a book or a magazine. But when you've already read all the books and magazines on the car 3+ times ? Hmmm... why not talk with your siblings and recite verses ? But when you've talked for 3 hours straight and recited all the verses you know and there is absolutely nothing to do... An unexpected surprise - Flight to China!

"Oh taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who trusts in Him!" -Psalm 34:8 God is truly so good to us! On our flight to China in December, we received an unexpected surprise! God blessed the morning of our flight so that everything went quickly and smoothly – the car ride to the airport, the security check, and finding our boarding gate. We arrived at the gate of our departure over 2 hours early! While we waited for our flight, I read my Bible, wrote in my Bible journal, jotted down a few paragraphs in my diary, and then walked around the airport with my mom. While we were walking around, we found a bookstore! I started reading books, and then I lost track of time... "Grace, we need to go!" called my brother. I glanced at my watch. Wow! It was 10:00 am!
