Yesterday, we played basketball with our cousin!

Theodore loves playing basketball, and he's pretty good at it, too. He made a lot of shots yesterday!

Below is Catherine shooting a ball. She is very strong, and she plays well, too!

We all enjoyed playing basketball that afternoon!

Happy Birthday, Anabel!!!

Happy Birthday to the BEST younger sister ever!!! Anabel, it's been such a blessing to have you in my life. I am so thankful and privileged to have you as my one and only younger sister. It was YOU who came into my life when I was an 18-month old baby. It was because of YOU that, at 18 months, I was promoted from the status of "baby of the family" to "older sister". You are such a wonderful companion, sister, and friend. We've talked and laughed so much together. As you enter this 13th year of your life, I pray that you will continue to honor God, seek Him, and bring His joy to those around you. And, of course, I  hope that we will celebrate many more birthdays together! Happy Birthday, Anabel!

Israel

On our trip to Israel, we flew on an Israeli airline called EL AL. Our first meal had pasta, chicken, pita bread (delicious!), grapes, potato chips, a slice of chocolate cake, and a drink.  After fifteen hours on the airplane, we landed in Israel.  As soon as the airplane touched the ground, almost everyone in the plane shouted and clapped.  Was it because our airplane stayed safe (and in the air) throughout the whole flight? We went through the customs, got our three tiny luggage (each less than 2 feet tall and 1 foot wide) from the baggage claim, and exited the airport.  The ride to the apartment where we would be staying was quite long.  However, I happened to be sitting next to my brother, who is both a very good comedian and a very good storyteller.  For the whole ride I sat listening to his entertaining story of animals (deer, cows, horses, skunks, and rabbits). At last, we arrived at our apartment building.  We...

Popsicles in Taiwan!

-
Image
More about Taiwan... We got to eat delicious home-made popsicles in Taiwan! Popsicles are one of the special local products in this part of Taiwan.  Below is Theodore and I in front of the popsicle store: The word in front of the store,  "冰",  is pronounced "bing" . It means "ice", and it can stand for cold desserts like ice cream, shaved ice, and popsicles.. Each of us chose a different flavor!  Daddy chose durian , Mommy chose taro , Catherine chose pineapple , Anabel chose milk , Theodore chose black sugar , and I chose passion fruit . We were very happy that we could find one that Theodore could eat (he has allergy)! Daddy finished first, and then Catherine! Anabel and Theodore took their time and finished last! :) The popsicles were SUPER delicious!!! Below are the wrappers of all our popsicles (except for Daddy's). Can you spot the Chinese Character "冰" "bing" on the popsicles?

The Humming Bird Aviary (at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum)

-
Image
On our way back to California from Texas, we visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum! My favorite part of the Museum was the Hummingbird Aviary.  Here are some pictures of the hummingbirds. Enjoy! This little bird was eating from the feeder: Hummingbirds come in all colors, including green! One of the best places to find hummingbirds is next to the feeders. More little hummingbirds... Hummingbirds are small and hard to spot, but it's fun to find them! The best surprise of all: A hummingbird nest!!!

Snowflake the Bunny

Image
Hello, reader! My name is Snowflake the Bunny. You've probably already read about me in Pets Surprise 1 and Pets Surprise 2. I'm going tell you my story  in my own words . Pay attention and listen! I have an exciting story to tell. I was born and grew up in the grassland in China. It was really fun growing up! Then, some people used me for an environmental experiment in the grasslands. One of the people who was doing the experiment liked me a lot! He thought I was sooooooo adorable and took me home to be his pet bunny. Unfortunately, he was a student living at the University dorms. Uh oh! The University's dorms do not allow pets! Too sad! He had to give me away. But he wanted to give me to someone who would take good care of me. So, he gave me to a family with 2 children, ages 4 and 7. The kids liked me a lot and played with me. It was really fun! But then, I had to leave again. The family knew another family with four kids. This family with four ki...

The Taiwanese Market

Image
The Market in Taiwan is a very fun and exciting place to be in. It is a lot like the Shuk in Israel . The Market is noisy and crowded, and almost everything is sold there. You can find fruits, vegetables, purses, shoes, clothes, fish, noodles, pastries, hot pot, and even fresh clams and pig hooves! We visited the Market around Lunchtime, so we looked for hot food first. Below is Theodore eating the delicious sweet potato (the purple kind) pancake! The vendors made them on the spot, so they were fresh and hot. We bought 2 for 50 Taiwanese yuan. Roughly 30 Taiwanese yuan equals 1 US dollar. Mmm! We also ate egg pancake with cheese. Daddy ordered one with cabbage in it. The lady also made the egg pancakes on the spot! Each egg pancake was around 30 Taiwanese yuan. We also bought roasted duck for dinner! The vendor said that they've been making duck for 21 years already! Roasted duck vendor: Another vendor sold nuts and dried fruit. We...

Pets Surprise!

Image
We just got back to China and now we already have 2 pets! Let me tell you the story of how it all happened.      First, Daddy received a messaged from a friend. I don’t remember the details, but our friend said that his friend did an environmental experiment on bunnies. His friend brought back one of the bunnies to keep as a pet in his school, but the school wouldn’t let him keep the bunny. So now, the bunny needed a home, and our friend asked if our family could take in the bunny. Sadly, Daddy said “no”.      On that very same day, Daddy, Anabel, Theodore, and I biked to the basketball court to play basketball. On our way back home, Theodore, Anabel, and I decided to bike a couple more rounds in our neighborhood before going back home. As I biked, I spotted a tiny black “thing” with-a-tail crawling slowly in the middle of the road. Quickly, I swerved my bike off the road to avoid colliding with th...

An unexpected surprise - Flight to China!

-
Image
"Oh taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who trusts in Him!" -Psalm 34:8 God is truly so good to us! On our flight to China in December, we received an unexpected surprise! God blessed the morning of our flight so that everything went quickly and smoothly – the car ride to the airport, the security check, and finding our boarding gate. We arrived at the gate of our departure over 2 hours early! While we waited for our flight, I read my Bible, wrote in my Bible journal, jotted down a few paragraphs in my diary, and then walked around the airport with my mom. While we were walking around, we found a bookstore! I started reading books, and then I lost track of time... "Grace, we need to go!" called my brother. I glanced at my watch. Wow! It was 10:00 am! I had been reading for a long time. I knew that boarding started at 10:00 am, and the gate closed at 10:40 am. There was no need to rush, especially because we are in economy class an...

Hatching Chicks!

-
Image
On the way back from our family road trip, we visited the Lu Family (Peace, Joyce, Grace, Justice, Providence, Assurance). They live in Northern CA and they have chicks, hens, and a rooster. They generously gave us eggs from their hens, and we brought them home to Southern CA and tried to hatch them. Today, on 8/23, in the afternoon, we heard a peep from the incubator. Our first chick started to hatch!!! We were sooo excited!!! Late in the afternoon, 5pm, and the chick was out already!!! Below is a video of our first chick drying up after hatching!!! It is so adorable!!! It is still wet, but it will fluff up soon! Here is the link to the follow-up post:  Chi-Chi the Chick
