We got to visit lots of playgrounds in Israel! They are different from the ones in the U.S. and they are really fun! This playground was in the Old City, Jerusalem. The swing was really fun! The park was really fun! You could slide down and also climb up! Sliding down! There were also two long blue slides! We also got to visit two parks in Tel Aviv. The first park was like an amusement park. It had like 20+ swings! This park also had two of the swings that we saw in Jerusalem! This park also had a giant playground with at least 12 slides! There was something that you could go on and it would take you down to the ground! Near this park in Tel Aviv was another park. It was really fun, too. On our last night in Tel Aviv, we also visited a park next to the beach! I hope you had a great time reading this post! Looking back, so many things happened this Sukkot in Israel! It was amazing!!! Day 1 On the first day and almost every day throughout the 8 days of Sukkot, we had a lot of fun playing in the Independence Park with kids from Israel and from all over the world. In the evening of the first day of Sukkot, we also attended a worship service in a sukkah at Roeh Israel (Netivyah) . It was amazing meeting people from all over the world, from Germany, England, America, Korea, and Romania! Day 2 On Tuesday, the second day of Sukkot, we visited the Israel Museum and had fun watching the kite festival. Day 3 On Wednesday, day 3 of Sukkot, we played at the Independence park again and joined some friends in their sukkah at French Hill for a fellowship BBQ. Our friends' sukkah Arm wrestling at Independence Park Day 4 Thursday, the 4th day, was the Jerusalem March! The Jerusalem March was one of the best parts of this Sukkot. ...
Hello everyone! I am Chi-Chi ( pronounced "chee-chee") the Chick! I was born on August 23rd, 2018. This is me hatching: When I came out of the egg, I looked kind of dead: But when I became fluffy, I was just the opposite! I started pecking at the other eggs! You see, I just wanted a friend. Finally, one of my siblings started to hatch! I was sooooooo excited! Then something went wrong and the temperature dropped. I don't know why, but my sibling stopped breathing. In the end, I turned out to be the only chick that hatched successfully. In the beginning, I was given cooked white rice to eat. I tried a piece, but I guess I just didn't like the taste. Instead I nestled down and sat right on top of the rice pan! Then, I got seeds to eat. I think they were chia seeds or sesame seeds or something like that, but anyways, they tasted REALLY good! I love eating seeds! I got my name "Chi-Chi" (given by Theodore) because when I chirp, it so...
Whenever someone asks me, "What is your favorite place that you visited in Israel?", I always answer, "The Shuk". "Shuk" means "street market" in Hebrew. I love going to the Shuk. The Shuk is always full of life and bustling with people. It is a very exciting place to visit in Jerusalem. There are the most people in the Shuk on Friday morning. This is because the Shuk closes early on Friday because of Shabbat and everyone needs to buy extra food ahead of time. Here is a picture of one of the emptier streets in the Shuk: Almost every type of food is sold in the Shuk: meat, vegetables, fruit, bread, grains, rice, spices, dessert, candy, and packaged food. The most colorful and attractive shops of the Shuk sell candy. We don't buy candy, but it looks very tempting. The smaller candy sells at 3 or 4 for 10 shekels. 1 dollar equals 3.67 shekels, so 10 shekels equals 2.73 dollars. Cookies are also sold at the Shuk. They are mo...
The Jerusalem March takes place each year during Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles) in Jerusalem. Anabel and Theodore got lots of flags from the marchers. The ICEJ. There are marchers from all over the world! Marchers from Ivory Coast (Africa) Marchers from Austria: Marchers from New Zealand: More marchers! The mounted police are supervising on the right: Anabel and Theodore at the Jerusalem March. Mooncakes are eaten in China during the Mid-Autumn Festival. They are commonly given as presents to friends and family. Daddy's student gave us mooncake this week. The mooncake was not normal, it was a special, modern, western-style mooncake - Ice Cream Mooncake! This is the coupon that Daddy's student gave him. We are going to go pick up the mooncake! We rode the subway to the mall to pick up the mooncake. We posed for a photo at the pick-up station. Yay! We've picked up the mooncake! We'll go to the park to enjoy the ice cream mooncake. The ice cream was set in a beautiful box. Inside were 7 small mooncakes (stars) and 1 big mooncake (the moon). Each mooncake was a different flavor. My mooncake was strawberry flavor. Anabel had orange-pomelo. We tried each other's flavors. They are all SOOOOOOOO delicious! Catherine's mooncake was green tea. I originally had green tea and she had strawberry, but we swi...
One of my favorite things in Israel is the food! I LOVE food, and every country and culture has its own unique type of food. Israel is no exception! In the Bible, God promised to bring the Israelites into Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey . The seven biblical fruits of Israel are: Wheat Barley Grapes Figs Pomegranates Olives Dates Although these 7 fruits are the 7 special fruits of Israel, but there are also lots of other delicious food in Israel! In this post, I will focus more on food in Israel, and I will talk about fruits in Israel in another post. There is too much delicious food in Israel than can be contained in 5 blog posts. For this reason, I will only include the favorite of our favorite foods in Israel. Something Sweet I enjoy sweets the most, so let's begin our food tour with something sweet! Israel is very rich in milk and dairy products. It's truly a land flowing with milk and honey! Israel's cheese cake, called "עוגת ג...
My favorite thing that we did this week during Sukkot in Israel was playing in Gan Ha'Atzmaut, Independence Park. We got to play with kids of all ages from families from all over the world. Sometimes some of the younger kids couldn't understand English, so some of us would translate into Hebrew, German, or Chinese, for them. We had a fun and exciting time together. Even though we only played together for one week, it feels as if we knew everyone for an year already! Below, we are playing a game called "Squirrel and Tree". The little ones absolutely LOVE this game, and it is pretty fun even for us who are older. Since we are all from all over the world, we all know different games to play. It was fun discussing, teaching, learning, and playing new games. Sometimes, we modified some games so that the younger ones could understand. For example, "North, Central, South America" became "Red, Yellow, Green". The little ones...
My favorite part about Science Centers are the interactive displays. The Pacific Science Center had lots of interactive, hands-on displays! We all had a great time at the Science Center. The Well-body Academy of Health and Wellness is an exhibit for kids that teaches you how to take care of your body and stay in good health. There are four areas in the Well-body exhibit: Food and Nutrition, Sleep, Exercise, and Hygiene. At the Food and Nutrition area, we learned to eat healthy foods and the correct amount of Calories. In the Sleep Exhibit, I learned that we need to sleep enough. Exercise is very important for health. Hygiene Let's go upstairs to the WELLBODY LOFT! Exercise well, Eat well, Sleep well, Wash well, and LIVE well! The Age Your Face Display showed you the bad effects of smoking, UV exposure, and obesity on aging. Below is Theodore at the Age Your Face Display: On the left is how Theodore would normally look a...
A place that many friends have recommended us to go to is Seward Park. Seward Park is by a lake, and there are swimming areas. There is also a playground and hiking trails. The Playground We spent a lot of time at the playground. This is Anabel on the tight rope: Anabel Carefully walking Succeeded! Good Job! Theodore gave it a try, too. Theodore You can do it, Theodore! Yay! Great Job, Theodore! Catherine had a nice time on the swings. The best part of the playground was the zipline. We've never been on one in a playground in CA, so this was very special. Zip-line (Theodore) Anabel on the zip-line Catherine on Zipline Daddy and Mommy enjoying their time at the park We ate lunch and dinner at the park. Hiking Then, we went for a hike around the lake. scene near lake lake The scenery around the lake was beautiful, but I think that the most best part of the hike was when we saw the eagle...
