Redwood Trees in California: Prairie Creek Redwood State Park

After the Family Conference, we drove up north to see the redwood trees.  We stayed overnight at Ocean View Inn.  Below is the room we stayed in.  We had 3 queen beds.

The checkout time for our hotel was 10:00 am, so we checked out of the hotel before we drove to the Prairie Creek Redwood State Park.

Before we checked out, we wrote a few thank-you notes for the cleaning lady.  This is what my brother wrote:

     This is what I wrote:

After we checked out of our hotel, we drove up north to the Prairie Creek Redwood State Park.  This year (all the way to August) is my brother's fourth-grade year, so we used his fourth-grade pass when we went to the park.  At the park, we went on a hike.  Here are some pictures.

The redwood trees were so tall!  God's creation is amazing!

Did you know that trees can smile?

On our hike, we saw three banana slugs.  The first was in a hole in a fallen tree.

The second was on a leaf.

The third was crawling on the ground.

We also saw other animals.  My brother took pictures of them.  This is a butterfly.

This is a bird.  From what I remember, my brother said that it is a woodpecker.

When we were hiking, we saw white mushrooms and redwood sorrel on the ground.

There were many ferns beside the road when we were hiking.  On the back the fern leaves, there were spores.  Some of the spores were brown, others were kind of white, like the one below.

We also did the Junior ranger program.  We got a badge and a sticker.

The State Park also had a Redwood Edventures Quest on the Prairie Creek Trail.  When we completed it and found the Quest word, we also got a badge.

After our hike, we all got back into the car, ate lunch, and drove up to Klamath Falls.
